Surrender All: An Illuminated Journal Retreat through the Stations of the Cross by Jen Norton is a valuable Lenten resource. The images are stunning and speak to the depth of Christ's suffering. The reflections are poignant and conducive to prayer. And the journal questions are designed to allow the reader to enter into a greater understanding of Jesus' suffering and death.
I have had the good fortune of utilizing a number of editions of Stations of the Cross over the years. This is, by far, my favorite. I believe that it allows the reader to experience the Stations in a whole new way. This can lead to greater insight not only into self, but into God.
This "prayer for the journey" included in the journal is indicative of the "realness" of this work. The prayer reads, in part, "Dear Jesus: So many things in life vie for my attention and seek to define me. It's so easy to let them: my job, my physicality, my money. And yet, everything I have, including my very life, is in your hands. Help me to stay vigilant in knowing that the only measure of wealth is in the love I give away."
